photography + film

A creative multi-disciplinary artist, Saskia’s photographic work has a clear cinematic aesthetic, influenced by film noir and neorealism. Embracing the traditions of documentary and street photography, narrative is at the core of her practice.

Her first twenty years spent in the wild, desolate North of England, steeped in history and folklore and surrounded by moorland and jagged coastline, left an indelible mark on her creative expression and informs much of her life and work as an artist.

She has exhibited and received Honourable Mentions in the 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016 International Mobile Photography Awards.

Focusing on recurring themes of solitude, nostalgia and the understated beauty of aloneness, Saskia’s film work expands on her background in photography and poetry to explore the dichotomy between separation and connection.

The Bag of Broken Dreams is the first of a trilogy and is currently in development.

Part road movie, rock’n’roll biography and intergenerational love story, The Poetics of Solitude trilogy is a semi-autobiographical look at art, memory and what it takes to discover a spirit of place.

the noir series

The noir series draws heavily on the evocative cinematic world of Film Noir, its literary and visual narrative a major influence.

Edgy, dark and surreal, Howard's work provokes thoughts surrounding the melancholy of travel, the physical and emotional journeys we take and ultimately the lingering effect of lovers, loss and longing.
